We can hardly contain our excitement! American fans of the Great British Baking Show won’t have to wait years to see newer seasons of the iconic baking competition series!
It was announced Thursday that Netflix has entered a deal that will allow the streaming service to air three new and additional future seasons of the show, and it will stream as a Netflix original in the U.S.
The first of the new seasons, starring new hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding, and new judge Prue Leith, will premiere on Netflix August 31. The second season will be available on Netflix later this year, with a still-to-be-filmed third new season slated to debut in 2019.
The Love Productions produced mega-hit drew huge ratings in the U.S. as it aired on PBS. But, when The Great British Baking Show moved to Channel 4 in the U.K., PBS lost rights to the show, leaving U.S. fans worried that they wouldn’t be able to enjoy future seasons.
The Netflix partnership with Love Productions is a huge move for the show, and will hopefully continue the hype surrounding the series and boost interest in the American version of the show, The Great American Baking Show, that is set to air it’s fourth season later this year.
The third season of The Great British Baking Show will also be made available later this year on Netflix under the title The Great British Baking Show: The Beginnings.
