The Great American Baking Show Announces Big Changes

The Great American Baking Show is returning to television with new hosts, a new network and a new judge and will be more like the Great British Baking Show than ever!

Fans of The Great American Baking Show will be thrilled to know that filming is currently underway in the United Kingdom for the show’s sixth season (or the first, depending on how you look at it).

An adaptation of the wildly popular Great British Baking Show, the American adaptation has failed to see the mass success of the UK’s version and has undergone numerous cast changes since its debut in 2015.

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, The Great American Baking Show announced that it replaced three of the four central cast members for the new season, with Paul Hollywood being the only returning judge.

For the first time, two British Baking Show judges will be teamed up for the American show as Dame Prue Leith joins Hollywood at the judges’ table. Actors Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry will be taking over hosting duties, replacing Spice Girl Emma Bunton and professional athlete Anthony Adams.

“We could not ask for a more perfect duo than Ellie and Zach to co-host The Great American Baking Show,” Brian Tannenbaum, head of alternative originals at Roku, said. “Our adaptation of the iconic series will continue to dish out the enduring warmth and humor that fans of the Baking Show universe love, with a twist that we know Ellie and Zach will deliver.”

In addition to a new cast, The Great American Baking Show will be aired for the first time on a streaming network. The show has moved from ABC to Roku, a free streaming service.

The six-episode series will reportedly air in early 2023.

We can likely expect the show’s format to remain the same (this is a good thing), as the production team continues to make cast changes in hopes of catching that proverbial lightning in a bottle that will launch The Great American Baking Show to levels of success that have so far only been seen in the original British version.

AUTHOR’S NOTE:

Kudos to Love Productions USA for not giving up on The Great American Baking Show! As a fan myself, I have high hopes that GABS will eventually see the success of the British Baking Show. But, I can’t help but question why they keep returning to the UK to film? I would love to see the American version truly Americanized by filming here in the good ol’ US of A.

I would love to hear your feedback! Feel free to comment below and let me know what you think about the GABS changes and what you would like to see from the show.
