The Great British Bake Off cast has been shaken up once again as Matt Lucas has announced his exit from the show.
Matt Lucas shared Tuesday that he is leaving his hosting duties at the Great British Bake Off behind after a 3-series run.
“Farewell Bake Off! It’s been a delicious experience and I can’t imagine a more fun way of spending my summers,” Lucas wrote on Instagram. “After three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else.”
The 48-year-old comedian went on to thank everyone involved with the show, including judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, and his co-host “Noelipops.”
Matt Lucas’s GBBO co-stars took to Instagram to leave messages of well wishes for Lucas.
“Sorry you’re leaving us @realmattlucas , you’ll be so missed by everyone. You made me laugh so much in the tent, your characters are epic. I was a massive fan of yours before you came to the tent, now I’ll always be your number one fan. Good luck in everything you do … X.” Paul wrote.
Prue followed with a post that read, “I have absolutely loved working with you Matt. Thank you for bringing so much laughter and fun to the tent!”
Noel Fielding shared a lengthy post of appreciation for Lucas on social media. He called his former co-host “a huge comic talent” and “a lovely man and a good friend.”
“Farewell buddy thank you for 3 amazing years. I will really miss your spark and huge smile in the tent and I will miss your kindness as a person and to all the bakers. I will miss your sense of the absurd and your silliness. I will miss all the times the four of us giggled together. I will miss your ability to turn into a fully formed character at the drop of a hat. I will miss you pretending to be Boris Johnson singing David Bowie songs and i will miss your upbeat nature and positive vibes,” Fielding wrote. “I wish you luck on your next adventure and look forward to watching as a fan.”
Matt Lucas joined the Great British Bake Off in 2020, replacing Sandi Toksvig. Toksvig and Noel Fielding took over for longtime (and wildly popular) hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc in 2017. Mel and Sue along with beloved judge Mary Berry left the show when it moved from BBC to Channel 4.
No announcement has been made about Lucas’s replacement at this time.
